Why did Elon Musk rebrand Twitter to X.com?
Musk has long since planned to make Twitter into an “everything app”
where users can shop, communicate and be entertained by the plethora of content on Twitter and now X
Elon Musk has a certain affinity towards the letter X as seen in SpaceX and his child with musical artist Grimes having the same letter X in their name.
X.com’s CEO Linda Yaccarino has been talking about how X.com will deliver “everything” as seen here Link to Linda Yaccarino's tweet
Musk has also stated towards employees that the platform should strive to be like the Chinese website “WeChat” where in his words people spend their daily life on the app because it's so all encompassing and helpful to the daily goings on. Musk’s affinity to the letter X goes back to him creating the original X.com website in 1999, where Musk wanted an all encompassing financial platform which ended up turning into Paypal. Musk also purchased Twitter under the company name X Corp. Aside from that since Sunday July 22nd of 2023 X.com now links back to Twitter.

X.com will have a long road ahead if Musk wants to turn it into a WeChat competitor seeing as WeChat is known for everything from booking yoga to ordering everything needed in daily life, to sorting out the bills and conversing with your friends. Now there are monetary and market challenges to be able to survive in today’s market and to massively expand is another story so we will have to see whether X.com will come close to WeChat
